Eagle Harbor Book Company presents Susan Vreeland reading from her new
novel, /Luncheon of the Boating Party/, Thursday, May 24, at 7:30p.m.
Although the event is free and open to the public, seats may be reserved
with advance purchase of a copy of the book. A question and answer session
and a book signing will conclude the program.
Vreeland’s new art-inspired novel, /Luncheon of the Boating Party/,
features characters appearing in a famous Renoir painting set on the terrace
of La Maison Fournaise, a restaurant that overlooks the Seine not far from
Paris. Renoir’s personal artistic crisis unfolds in the course of the story,
as well as the breakup of the Impressionist group. Vreeland explores a
myriad of themes including the yearning for creative expression, social
changes in marriage and inter-class relationships, and, of course, love. “ .
. . impressionistically dazzling and humane as the Renoir painting that
inspires it . . . Her best book yet.” ~ Robert Olen Butler, Pulitzer Prize
winner for /A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain.
Vreeland is the author of previous fictional works based on the artists and
the art world including /The Girl in Hyacinth Blue/, /The/ /Passion of
Artemisia, LifeStudies/, and /The Forest Lover/. She lives in California.
