There is something wonderful about holding a handmade object. I like the feeling as it invites me to slow down, become present, to look at and feel this object that someone's loving hands created. Although I have always had a studio my actual practice has been put on hold several times. I have a BFA from USC where my inherent clay interest was cultivated and inspired by various old forms of majolica which I spent early years making. Through fits and starts my passion to make never wained. Now, mostly retired, I am able to devote my time to my ever so patient muse. I am a functional potter currently finding inspiration in my own backyard garden. Handbuilt and/or thrown on the wheel using mainly low fire Terra Cotta clay, my work is once fired to vitrious cone 3, ensuring durability and functionality. As an experimenter, I enjoy pushing boundaries, asking "what if..." then exploring decorative techniques, and forms to discover what can I can achieve with my clay while continuing to hone my skills. This process of experimentation not only keeps my work fresh but also allows me to grow as an artist. My desire is that my work will bring an extra sweetness to everyday activities like serving a meal, growing a plant, having morning coffee or sipping evening tea. It makes me happy to think that these pieces I've put my time and passion into make their way to hands to bring connection. My aim to create objects that are approachable, comfortable, and honest, ultimately evoking the sense of connection – connection to nature, connection to the inherent beauty of handmade objects, and connection to the joy that comes from using art in our daily lives.
